Therapeutic Hot/Cold Pack
Cryotherapy (cold therapy) and thermotherapy (hot therapy) have been used for thousands of years to promote healing, relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
According to Medical News Today, ice is recommended for new injuries because it lowers inflammation and and decreases blood flow. Heat is recommended for chronic pain because it draws fresh blood to the area and relaxes muscles. The alternating of hot and cold dilates and then respectively constricts blood vessels eliciting a healing response from the body.
The Arthritis Foundation also recommends the use of hot/cold therapy as the first line of defense for arthritic pain.
